One-way rental

One-way car rental in Thailand, from Phuket

Pick-up and drop-off
Dates

One-way car rental in Phuket lets you return the car at a different point. It is available across the island, from the terminal at Phuket airport to an address on the far side of it. The drop-off point is set in the search, before you book.

001

What does a one-way change?

The choice of cars and the delivery and return charge. The daily rate stays the same.

It changes the choice of cars. A different drop-off is the supplier's decision rather than a policy of the site, so setting one narrows the list to the suppliers willing to do that particular pairing. The further apart the two points are, the fewer cars come back, and the mainland run to Khao Lak is the thinnest pairing on the island. The search counts them for your own dates before you choose.

It changes the delivery and return charge. That figure is set per car and shown on the listing before you pay anything, and on a one-way pairing it is not waived.

The daily rate is unchanged; there is no one-way surcharge on the rate itself.

002

Set it at the search, not on the day

Both points go into the search before you book.

Because the drop-off decides which cars are offered and what they cost, it has to be part of the search rather than a request afterwards. Put both points in and the list that comes back is already filtered to cars whose supplier will take the car back where you want to leave it.

A request on the collection day concerns something the booking never covered, and the car may already be committed to another renter at the other end of the island. The supplier can refuse it.

The booking form has both fields. Untick the return-to-the-same-place option and choose the return point from the second list. The next steps in the booking and collection process are the same: choose the car and check its terms before paying.

003

Where can you take the car?

Pickup points across the island, and on the mainland over the Sarasin Bridge.

Anywhere on the list of pickup points, at either end. The airport and Cape Panwa are the only places with named points to meet at; everywhere else the car is brought to, or collected from, an address you give. A one-way booking can mix the two: collect at the terminal, leave it at your hotel on the far side.

Three of those points are not on Phuket at all. Natai, Phang Nga and the Khao Lak beaches sit over the Sarasin Bridge on the mainland, in Phang Nga province. The supplier's conditions ask you to confirm at the booking stage that the car may be driven out of Phuket province. Pairings to Khao Lak return the fewest cars.

A trip that starts and ends at the airport is a same-place rental and carries no one-way charge. A trip that lands at the airport and finishes on the mainland, or starts at a resort and finishes at the terminal, is one-way, and the delivery and return charge shown on the car covers the difference.

The return itself works the same way as any other. You hand the car back at the agreed point and time, the supplier checks it over with you, and the fuel level has to match what you were given. Photograph the car and the gauge at both ends of the rental. On a one-way, the person who hands the car over and the person who takes it back may be different people.

If the drop-off, the pickup point or the dates have to change after you have booked, contact the supplier using the details on your voucher to change them. The confirmation email you were sent when you booked carries your voucher and the supplier's own contact details, so keep it to hand for anything that has to change once the booking exists.

FAQ

One-way, answered

Questions on cost, the choice of cars and the drop-off point.

Yes. Every pickup point on this site can be paired with a different drop-off, in either direction. Set it at the search stage and the list comes back already filtered to cars whose supplier will do it.

The daily rate does not change; the difference sits in the delivery and return charge, which is set per car and shown on the listing before you pay anything.

No. Setting a different drop-off narrows the list, because it is the supplier's decision rather than a site-wide policy. The further apart the two points, the fewer cars come back.

Because it changes both which cars are offered and what they cost. A request on the day concerns something the booking never covered, and the supplier can refuse it.

Yes, and it is the pairing with the fewest cars, because it is the furthest. Khao Lak lies over the Sarasin Bridge in Phang Nga province, and the supplier's conditions ask you to confirm at the booking stage that the car may be driven out of Phuket province.

Yes, and the choice is the same in that direction. Finishing at the terminal on departure day saves a transfer to the airport.

Put both points and your dates in and the live list comes back for that pairing, with the delivery and return charge on every car. The deposit and the cover level work exactly as they do on any other booking. If a pairing you want is not coming back with cars, try it in the other direction, or email info@phuketairportcarrental.com.
